Tis the season for Pennsylvania fresh farm stand and farmer’s market vegetables. Submit one or more of your best original recipes to the Pennsylvania Vegetable Marketing and Research Program’s “Simply Delicious, Simply Nutritious” Vegetable Recipe Contest for cash prizes awarded at a statewide cook-off in August.
Judges will narrow down written entries to four recipes in each of these categories (each must contain at least one of the veggies as a “major ingredient”):
• Snap beans/lima beans/peas
• Sweet corn/sweet onions
• Broccoli/cabbage/cauliflower
• Leafy greens (kale, lettuce, spinach, turnip greens, etc.)
You must follow the rules, which include: “Recipes must be created or modified by the contestant or a member of the contestant’s family. Recipes previously published in a copyrighted publication will not be eligible.” And recipes, which must be written in a particular format, “will be chosen on the basis of creativity, nutrition/healthfulness, ease of preparation and overall appeal.” Before submitting your own special recipe, review contest details at paveggies.org or contact PVMRP at 717-694-3596 .
Entries must be delivered by June 30, 2009 via one of the following methods:
• E-mail to pvmrp@embarqmail.com (preferred method)
• Fax to 717-694-3596
• Mail to Pennsylvania Vegetable Marketing and Research Program, 815 Middle Road, Richfield, PA 17086-9205.
