June is a great time to be outdoors and soak up the splendor of the mountains. Kate St. John, author of Outside My Window bird blog gives tips on what to expect:

-Take advantage of long days as the summer solstice approaches. More daylight to enjoy outdoor activities!

-Observe birds while they are singing, courting, defending their territory, carrying nesting material, carrying food, feeding fledglings, warning of danger. At this time of year Canada Warblers are especially prominent in the Laurel Highlands.

-Flowers, especially long-tubed flowers that are delicious to hummingbirds and butterflies.

-Fireflies, crickets and dragonflies. Set aside some time under the stars and enjoy those fireflies!

-Baby bunnies, baby birds, babies of all kinds. Kids especially love watching these little creatures!

-Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture the wildlife in the Laurel Highlands!
