Biking, white water rafting, golfing, skiing or snow tubing; no matter what season, the Laurel Highlands are a hot spot for outdoor enthusiasts. Because the Laurel Highlands are situated about an hour southeast of Pittsburgh, the area has long been a haven for anyone looking to get out of the city and enjoy the beauty of the mountains. Jill Capuzzo from The New York Times notes that in addition to Pittsburghers, people from Washington D.C, Baltimore, Cleveland and Columbus are making the 3-4 hour drive to find vacation homes in the region.

Inspired by the great outdoors, Frank Lloyd Wright built his 1939 masterpiece, Fallingwater in Mill Run, which is visited by about 150,000 people each year. Like Wright, many choose to build homes in the region because of the natural splenor, the pleasant climate and the variety of things to do. Other attractions in the area include Frank Lloyd Wright’s Kentuck Knob, Quecreek Mine Rescue Site, and the Memorial honoring the passengers and crew of United Flight 93.
