Ligonier History and Country Charm

April 6th, 2009

Ligonier is a town filled with rich history coupled by country charm. It features over 60 unique shops and eateries with a historical twist that takes you back in time to the French and Indian War at Fort Ligonier, and the Ligonier Diamond, where stagecoach drivers of the 1800’s hitched their horses to hitching posts around the public square and local farmers came to trade their produce for supplies.

The town is named after John Ligonier, a British noble of French origin who held the rank of Field Marshal in the British Army. To fully appreciate the history of the town, check out the original fort at Fort Ligonier and explore the exhibits located at the Fort Ligonier Museum.

After a day of tourism, the Campbell House Bed & Breakfast offers charming accommodations with a Victorian flavor and eclectic collection of Campbell memorabilia. Located within a short walking distance of the Diamond, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast each morning of your visit.

Find out more about the features, country pleasures and historical adventures that Ligonier has to offer as featured in the Spring Issue of Trips & Getaways.
