The World Ablaze: An Introduction to the Seven Years’ War, is a major exhibition drawn from Fort Ligonier’s permanent collections. Over 300 original 18th century objects from around the world reflect the global aspects of the Seven Years’ War, including artifacts ranging from a 1760 “Redcoat” uniform to elephant trunk armor from India.
The exhibition graphically demonstrates that Fort Ligonier was part of a larger conflict in North America – the French and Indian War – one of several theaters in the great global contest later called the Seven Years’ War.
Fort Ligonier’s 250th anniversary continues in 2009 as The Year of Victories unfolds, recognizing Britain’s many triumphs in 1759. The art gallery features Edward Penny’s The Death of General Wolfe, one of the earliest known paintings of General James Wolfe’s death at Quebec in 1759. This British victory helped decide the French and Indian War.
Fort Ligonier’s visitor experience also includes George Washington’s pistols and memoirs, and the exploring of furnished buildings, cannons and wagons within the Fort.
